Rob Ickes, one of the top resonator guitarists playing today, is a founding member of the bluegrass supergroup "Blue Highway." After their first recording was released in 1996, this band swept the International Bluegrass Music Association awards with wins for Album of the Year and Emerging Artist of the Year. Their 2004 release, "Wondrous Love," was nominated for a Grammy and won the Gospel Music Association's DOVE AWARD and the IBMA Award for "Gospel Recording of the Year." Rob has been voted IBMA Dobro Player of the Year a total of seven times - the only person other than Jerry Douglas to ever receive the award.
Aside from his work with "Blue Highway," Rob has also been busy as a session player in Nashville. He has performed and/or recorded with Alison Krauss, Dolly Parton, Ricky Skaggs, Patty Loveless, Earl Scruggs, Steve Wariner, Marty Stuart, David Grisman, Peter Rowan, The Oak Ridge Boys, Jerry Douglas, Lynn Morris, John Cowan, Harley Allen, The Cox Family, Reba MacEntire and Mary Chapin Carpenter, among many others. Rob was the youngest player to be invited to participate in the all-star Dobro release produced by Jerry Douglas, "The Great Dobro Sessions," a virtual "who's who" of Dobro players. He has four solo albums on Rounder Records.
