Celtic music comprises the songs and instrumentals primarily of Ireland and Scotland, and this genre contains some of the most beautiful and compelling sounds in all of world music. Played on fiddles, whistles, concertinas and guitars, among other acoustic instruments, there is a wealth of styles and techniques to be learned. These make up a good part of the bedrock of American traditional music, particularly the tunes and songs of the Southern Appalachians.
