We at Homespun are shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of our friend and Homespun instructor, Stacy Phillips, on Tuesday, June 5. He suffered a heart attack after playing a gig near Hartford, CT and died in a nearby hospital.
Stacy was a popular and near-ubiquitous figure on the Northern bluegrass scene for decades, playing in numerous bands, doing session work, teaching and writing instruction books. Through the years, he had played and recorded with many musicians familiar to Homespun customers: Kenny Kosek, Tony Trischka, Andy Statman and Jerry Douglas, among others. At their annual convention in Anaheim California, the National Association of Music Merchants gave Homespun its "Milestone Award" for our 50 years in the music business. Jane and I humbly accepted this honor at a special breakfast ceremony on Saturday, January 21.

Jefferson Airplane alumni Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen were honored on a PBS broadcast on October 14 called "GRAMMY Salute to Music Legends." David Crosby made the presentation. We're proud that both Jack and Jorma have been long-time Homespun instructors. Many of our artists have taught at Jorma's renowned Fur Peace Ranch, a premier guitar camp in eastern Ohio.
New York Blues Hall of Fame Concert & Ceremony returns to the Orpheum Perfroming Arts Center in Tannersville this year. The inductees for 2016 are Rory Block and John Platania. The other artists who will be leading the induction ceremony and performing during the evening are Professor Louie & the Crowmatix, the Michael Packer Blues Band, Larry Packer & Greg Dayton.
Rory was also nominated for the Blues Music Awards for Best album ("Hard Luck Child") and Acoustic Artist.
