Blind Blake was a fingerstyle blues and ragtime guitarist of unparalleled virtuosity and musical dexterity, a hugely influential force on both his contemporaries (including Rev. Gary Davis) and a large cohort of acoustic blues and ragtime revivalist players.

Learning the songs of Blind Blake is a challenge even for the most experienced country blues pickers, but guitarist/teacher Rainer Brunn breaks them down in a way that makes them accessible to any intermediate fingerstyle guitarist.

In his communicative, concise style, Rainer teaches his interpretations of four unique Blake songs: Hard Pushing Papa (G), Poker Woman Blues (C), Rope Stretching Blues (Am) and Bad Feeling Blues (dropped D). He expertly breaks each of them down, detailing the complex elements that make Blake’s style so infectious and compelling: ear-catching licks and runs, contrapuntal lines, unusual chord inversions, cool turnarounds and complex right-hand picking techniques. Each song highlights the specific sounds you can get in different keys on the guitar, with their own flavors and chord shapes.

These powerful blues and ragtime songs will keep you busy for hours. So warm up your fingers, grab a capo and get ready to learn some great new material taught by a master. Rainer’s lessons are guaranteed to expand your melodic horizons!

I love Rainer's stuff. I have absolutely loads of great Homespun lessons but this series is especially good. To call them 'Jewels' is so appropriate they really are gems. I have bought all of them as soon as they came out. Highly recommended!

I agree, Ranier's lessons are among the best to be found anywhere. But why not make them even better by including standard notation along with TAB? Notation is very helpful. It's a one-time investment in time, and worth every minute to some of us. Please reconsider.

Thanks for the feedback, Lou. We'll take that into account in the future. Meanwhile, glad you are enjoying Rainer's excellent lessons.

I was ready to buy the Blake DVD when I saw the it doesn't include TABS. Let me know when you include TABS and I'll buy this one.

This lesson does, indeed, come with tabs that Rainer did himself. You can download the booklet as a .PDF when you purchase the video. Let us know if you need help with this. It's a terrific lesson.

Most people that play this type of music do not read standard notation. I am afraid that you are a bit of an outlier. What do you need standard notation for, when you have TABS and a demonstration video?

While there's a lot of overlapping info offered by TAB and standard, each one has certain unique advantages. Most of my learning comes from the transcriptions, rather than the videos. Perhaps I'm an "outlier", but apparently standard is quite useful to a lot of folks, since it's almost always included.

Rainer's lessons are some of the best (and I own well over 100 Guitar Workshop and Homespun videos)! His arrangements and teaching are absolutely fantastic! I really can't wait for the volumes four, five (and beyond) to drop! Hope that they are coming soon! Please keep them coming!
